Highlights An isolated microspore culture system was developed for the model plant arabidopsis. This system will be used to study the molecular-genetic pathways regulating haploid embryo development from pollen, with specific emphasis on the role of histone acetylation in this process. Secondary chemical genomics screens were performed to identify compounds that enhance the positive effect of the HDAC inhibitor trichostatin A on haploid embryo induction. A strong enhancer compound was identified.
