What’s on around The Hague
Summer’s here, so time to really get out & about, especially if you have

All summer, Music: Organ recitals, Grote Kerk, Haarlem
Haarlem, boasts two of the world's visually & aurally most beautiful organs: the Christian
Müller organ in the Grote/ Bavokerk & the Cavaillé-Coll organ in the Philharmonie concert
hall. Every Tuesday & Thursday (Sunday service & concert) there are organ recitals,

The 69th year of the Holland festival featuring a mixture of local &

4 June, Music: Carmen Souza & Theo Pas'cal & Residentie Orkest
Afro/Jazz duo, Carmen Souza & contrabassist Theo Pas'cal perform Cape Verdian

The second Russian opera this season; Tchaikovsky's Pique Dame. The compelling opera
was composed in a period of turmoil for

This annual festival of theatre, (dance & music) takes over the island of Terschelling,

16 June, Opera: La Bohème - Puccini
Opera Zuid celebrates its 25th anniversary with a production of this favorite classic Italian
opera, telling the sad & dramatic story of Mimi dying in the arms of her lover Rodolfo.

29 June & 1 July, Music: Anniversary concert with E.M. Westbroek
Dutch National Opera closes its anniversary season with two concerts by the Dutch
soprano Eva-Maria Westbroek. One of the most successful opera singers of today,
Eva-Maria will be accompanied by the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by

2 July - 13 November, Exhibition: Jewish history of the Hague
The Haags Historisch Museum presents an exhibition tracing 350 years of Jewish history
from the beginning of the 17th century up to now & also examines present-day Judaism in
The Hague. The exhibition include
lectures, guided tours by 't Gilde through the former Jewish Quarter, & excursions to the
Liberal Jewish Synagogue & the Jewish Cemetery of The Hague.

30 July - 12 Aug, sport/tradition: Skûtsjesilen Championships
Skûtsjes are traditional cargo Frisian ships once used by Frisian farmers. In the annual
sailing championships skippers of these historic ships fight to become the skûtsjesilen
champion. A festive week 2 - 7 August with fireworks, markets & naval reviews. Got friends

5 - 7 August, Festival: The Westland Floating Parade
Promoting the Westland greenhouse & farming sector, a festive floating parade with 60
boats decorated with flowers & vegetables sailing by Naaldwijk, Vlaardingen, Wateringen,

12 - 21 August, Festival: Grachtenfestival (canal festival)
A ten-day classical music marathon with 150 (very affordable) concerts in private homes,
gardens, roof terraces, cruise ships, canal houses, tube tunnels. A “must see” (from a
canal boat!) is the Prinsengracht

12 – 20 August, Festival: Scheveningen International Fireworks
An international competition to see which country can put on the best fireworks display.

Dons v.d Gronden, IWC member, together with Jan Pasteur & Judith Heinsohn will hold an

20 - 21 August , Festival: Harbour Festival Ijmuiden
A cultural & nautical event in this beautiful old fishing harbour. Cultural shows with a visit to

Once a year, old fortified towns open their gates for you to discover the forgotten stories of
medieval times & learn how the defense system of

1 - 2 September, Theatre: A Midsummer Night's Dream
British open-air theatre company ILLYRIA celebrate their
25th anniversary with an open air production of Midsummer night’s Dream. Illyria
are still performing the entire play with just 5 quick-changing, fast-running actors
who share all the roles between them! Bring your rug & picnic for a wonderful
evening of outdoor there.

National opening of the cultural season featuring 2000 performers in 30 venues in The
